C/SPAN: a Self-Adapting Web Proxy Cache
نویسندگان
چکیده
In response to the exponential growth of Internet traffic, web proxy caches are deployed everywhere. Nonetheless, their efficiency relies on a large number of intrinsically dynamic parameters, most of which can not be predicted statically. Furthermore, in order to react to changing execution conditions — such as network resources, user behavior or flash crowds, or to update the web proxy with new protocols, services or even algorithms — the entire system must be dynamically adapted. Our response to this problem is a self-adapting Web proxy cache, C/SPAN,1 that applies administrative strategies to adapt itself and react to external events. Because it is completely flexible, even these adaptation policies can be dynamically adapted.

The response speed of Web pages is one of the necessities of information technology. In recent years, renowned companies such as Google and computer scientists focused on speeding up the web. Achievements such as Google Pagespeed, Nginx and varnish are the result of these researches. In Customer to Customer(C2C) business systems, such as chat systems, and in Business to Customer(B2C) systems, s...
متن کاملTime-Domain Analysis of Web Cache Filter Effects (Extended Version)
This paper uses trace-driven simulation to study the traffic arrival process for Web workloads in a simple Web proxy caching hierarchy. Both empirical and synthetic Web proxy workloads are used in the study. The simulation results show that a Web cache reduces both the peak and the mean request arrival rate for Web traffic workloads, while the variance-to-mean ratio of the filtered traffic typi...
متن کاملImproving Web Access Efficiency Using P2P Proxies
Recent studies have shown that caching data at the proxy server can improve the user response time for web document retrieval. However, a single cache proxy has a limited cache space, thus the amount of data that can be cached is limited. In this paper, we organize the distributed proxy servers into a group of peer-to-peer cache proxies. By exploiting the aggregate cache space and computing pow...
متن کاملCooperative proxy caching for wireless base stations
This paper proposes a mobile cache model to facilitate the cooperative proxy caching in wireless base stations. This mobile cache model uses a network cache line to record the caching state information about a web document for effective data search and cache space management. Based on the proposed mobile cache model, a P2P cooperative proxy caching scheme is proposed to use a self-configured an...
متن کاملLSAM Proxy Cache: A Multicast Distributed Virtual Cache
The LSAM Proxy Cache (LPC) is a multicast distributed web cache that provides automated multicast push of web pages, based on self-configuring interest groups. The LPC is designed to reduce network and server load, and to provide increased client performance for associated groups of web pages, called ‘affinity groups’. These affinity groups track the shifting popularity of web sites, such as fo...
